Lifeline offers easy-to-use, reliable alert systems and finds its way into our Best list for 2024. If you’re looking for a household name in healthcare and willing to pay extra for it, look no further than the medical alert offerings from Lifeline.

Lifeline is a storied company with a strong reputation. Formerly known as Philips Lifeline, the company has a long history with a sterling reputation. This company introduced medical alert systems in the United States back in 1974.  In 2021, the company was acquired by ConnectAmerica, the same company that owns MedicalAlert.com.

With any business acquisition, there is a concern that a company’s level of service might change. However, we’re happy to report that during our experience with Lifeline, the company demonstrated superior service. At multiple points in our interactions with them, the sales and support team went beyond our expectations to make things easy for us. Service is an area where the Lifeline really stands out.

Always incredibly easy to set up, maintain, and use in an emergency, we also recommend Auto Fall Detection if your loved ones are prone to falling and losing consciousness.

Lifeline is a premium offering with years of time-tested reliability. We have no issue recommending Lifeline and are proud to include them on our best-of list this year.

LifeLine HomeSafe Overview

Lifeline was the first company to market a home medical alert system almost 50 years ago. Philips later purchased the company, and it’s now part of the ConnectAmerica family of goods and services for older adults.

The company’s customer service is exemplary, and the system is easy to install and activate. Professional installation is also available for $99. The HomeSafe AutoAlert system offers peace-of-mind for customers who are without or have unreliable cellular service. However, it’s more expensive and has fewer options than lower-priced competitors.

Note:  Lifeline offers hefty discounts to AARP members, including free product activation and free shipping. To take advantage of these savings, have your AARP membership number handy when you call to purchase the system.

Response times for the help button were exceptionally fast. In 10 tests, all calls connected within 20 seconds. The details of each call were recorded in the Caregiver Portal. We did experience response times of over 2 minutes in some fall detection tests. The operators couldn’t explain the delays, and that was concerning. In a medical emergency, every minute counts.

Service subscribers have access to the Lifeline Cares app, which connects users to the Caregiver Portal. The app is available in both Apple and Android versions. Subscribers can also access the Caregiver Portal directly from a desktop computer.

Lifeline offers a seamless cancellation and returns process.  Be sure to save the shipping box and the envelope marked “Equipment Return.” You’ll return the equipment in the original shipping box, and the envelope contains a prepaid FedEx shipping label.

Lifeline can be proud of their high-quality customer service, instructional materials, Cares app, and returns process.

Lifeline "On The Go" Mobile Medical Alert System

Lifeline On The Go is a GPS-enabled medical alert with built-in automatic fall detection. The company introduced the medical alert system to the United States, back in 1974.  In 2021, the company was acquired by ConnectAmerica, the same folks that operate MedicalAlert.com.

With a total startup cost $129.90, a $49.95 monthly monitoring fee, plus an additional $15.00 month for automatic fall detection, Lifeline On The Go has a relatively high first year cost of $909.30.

We found Lifeline On The Go to be a solid product backed by excellent service with reliable fall detection.  Lifeline’s sales and service were among the top of the companies we tested. Their sales representatives went beyond the call of duty to help us get an AARP discount.
